Where we work

Ru'ya began in 2001 in the Sudanese city of Omdurman, where we were concerned mostly with working with displaced women from the Nuba Mountain region.

Following the ceasefire of 2002, Ru'ya decided to establish a presence in the Nuba Mountains and opened a women's centre there in 2003.

In 2007, Ru'ya transferred its head office to the Nuba Mountains and continued working with the local communities until just recently, when a recent eruption of violent conflict forced us to temporarily suspend our activities due to very real security risks. We continue however to support displaced persons from the region and we hope to recommence our work in the Nuba Mountains and South Khordofan again soon.

See our page on South Kordofan and Nuba Mountains for more information on the region we work in!
